My name is Melinda Andersen and I run a small business called Paperklip. I have been a paper-crafter for 5 years. I work from home in southern Sydney surrounded by pristine bushland. I have a young, busy family and though it is not always easy I try to find time to create every day. It feeds my soul.
With Paperklip I design and make garlands using many different elements like scrapbook papers, Japanese tape, paper lace doilies and disused vintage books. I also love to work with collage techniques.
I am a regular market stall holder and decorator. My work has been published in various magazines such as Inside Out, My Child, Shop4Kids, Shop Girl and has featured on various blogs.
Try your hand at creating this Flower Garland using our great products and our Designer of the Month's inspiration!
Products used
:: Pattern paper - Heidi’s garden [view]
:: Pattern paper - Panama Lounge [view]
:: Stainless Steel Scissors [view]
:: Embroidery thread
Step one
Cut the 4 large glittered flower shapes from the Heidi’s garden paper pack. Flip one of the shapes over and use it as a template to cut four more flowers from coordinating papers.
Step two
Place two flowers on top of each other with the petals showing alternate colours.
Step three
Thread a matching embroidery thread through both flowers. Knot the thread in the centre front to make a stamen. Knot at the back to secure the two flowers together.
Step four
Cut a number of small rectangles 1.5cm x 4cm from a striped paper lace page. Trim one end to make a flag shape.
Step five
Punch two small holes through all of the flags and flowers with a needle at even spacings. Thread the pieces from the back to the front starting with 3 flags then a flower and continue to make a pretty garland for your shelf.
